Tasting Notes on individual wines in this pack
2020 100% Viognier – The Cambrian White (new release August 2020)
This 100% Viognier comes from our low-yielding, unirrigated Estate vineyards and was hand-picked to ensure the highest quality. The wine displays crisp acidity with apricot, pear and ginger notes, making it an excellent partner for a variety of seafood, white meats, and spicy foods, including Asian, Indian, Moroccan or Thai food. The flavour will continue to develop in the cellar for the next 5+ years.
2019 100% Mourvèdre Rosé – The Quartz Rosé (current release)
Rose Quartz symbolises unconditional love and compassion, with the colour of the wine reflecting this classic stone. Made in the Rosé style from our Estate’s dry-grown vineyards and 100% Mourvedre grapes. The wine expresses enchanting aromas of musk and violets while the generous palate reveals hints of papaya and lime combined with a refined crisp, dry finish. A refreshing drink on a hot summer’s day – try it with smoked salmon, Thai beef salad, or with friends.
2017 100% Mourvèdre – The Third Man (new release July 2020)
Bronze Medal Heathcote Wine Show 2019 | Bronze Medal The Real Review
Grapes were harvested by hand, de-stemmed and crushed into small open fermenters with 2 weeks post-ferment maceration. The wine was aged in old oak for 18 months prior to bottling in September 2018. It has neither been filtered or fined. It’s an elegant medium bodied style wine with a garnet hue. There are olive and sour cherry aromas. The palate is savoury with nuances of forest-floor and velvet-like tannins.
2015 100% Grenache – The Lively (museum release)
Silver Medal @ 2016 Heathcote Wine Show | 92/100 points James Halliday
We wanted to express the vibrant fruit flavours of Grenache, uncompromised by heavy oak. The grapes were hand-picked, fermented in open vats without extended maturation, and basket pressed after six months in tank with a few oak staves. This wine was bottled in screw cap when still fresh and lively, and left to age in bottle. The pH has been achieved with natural acidity; no additions have been required. Ruby red, with a translucent hue reflecting the large berries and light skins typical of this variety. The bouquet supplies fresh minerality with hints of cherries, strawberries and raspberries which transcend the early palate to give a wonderfully smooth finish.
2018 Dry Red (Shiraz / Mourvèdre / Tempranillo blend) – The Fandango (new release June 2020)
65% Shiraz, 25% Mourvedre, 10% Tempranillo
The fruit was harvested by hand, fermented in open vats with daily hand plunging, and basket pressed. The wine was aged for 20 months in 25% new French oak barriques and blended just prior to bottling in September 2019. This novel trio of 65% Shiraz, 25% Mourvèdre and 10% Tempranillo doesn’t put a step out of place. There is an interesting interplay of red and dark fruits, giving a medium bodied style with sour cherry, plum and white pepper notes and an earthy, savoury finish. Will you do the Fandango?
2018 Menége a Trois (Grenache / Shiraz / Mourvèdre blend) – (released April 2020)
55% Grenache, 25% Shiraz, 20% Mourvèdre – this wine is ruby red and medium bodied, with bright floral aromas of rose petals and lavender. The front palate has lifted red fruits including raspberries and cherries. There are hints of chocolate and spice on the finish. Try with pork belly, pizza or your favourite pasta dish.
