The 2018 Vintage:
2018 brought good spring rains and a warm dry summer. There was low disease pressure throughout the vineyards. Grapes were hand-picked to ensure that only the best bunches were taken.

The Vineyard:
All fruit was Estate grown, sourced from north facing slopes of the Dowd’s Lane vineyard. The Grenache vines are on a high rocky slope exposed to the summer sun. The vines are unirrigated and very low yielding. They are cane-pruned by hand and wrapped to a single wire trellis to encourage some bunch shading during the heat of summer.

The Winemaking:
50% of the bunches were retained whole and stored in CO2 for 21 days, then whole bunch pressed. The stalks, skins and stems were returned to the ferment and retained for and further four weeks. The other 50% was destemmed, crushed, fermented on skins and basket pressed. The two components were then blended and aged in semi-permeable plastic tank without oak for 15 months prior to bottling.
