Tasting Notes

The 2023 Vintage
2023 was a continuation of cooler and wetter weather that had commenced in early 2020. There was plenty of moisture in the ground during spring to support budburst and flowering. The ripening period was warm and dry, however rainfall during March slowed down the final stages of ripening.

The Vineyard
The Mourvédre and Grenache were sourced from adjacent north-west facing slopes of our Dowd’s Lane vineyard. The estate vines are unirrigated and yielded less than 1 tonne to the acre. They are cane-pruned by hand and wrapped to a single wire trellis to encourage some bunch shading during the heat of summer.

The Winemaking
The fruit was harvested by hand. In the winery the fruit was destemmed, lightly crushed and pumped directly into a basket press, where the juice was separated from the solids. The juice was fermented off-skins and aged for 5 months in stainless steel tank. and bottled in early July 2023.
